The Glasgow Commonwealth Games (July 23 rd to August 3rd) were an opportunity for Christians throughout the city to receive athletes and visitors from the 53 member countries and territories that account for 2.2 billion people – approximately 30% of the global population.
The Scottish Bible Society printed a commemorative edition of the New Testament to which Her Majesty the Queen wrote an introduction, while churches and organizations provided hospitality, social care, evangelistic outreach, children’s camps, and prayer.
Street Pastors were joined by Games Pastors to provide guidance, and practical support to visitors and Glaswegians alike, and the Salvation Army distributed water at venues, train stations, bus stops and other points.
