The Prai tribe of Thailand are a small people group numbering no more than 20,000. Only a very small proportion are born-again Christians. Missionary Fran Jordan from New Tribes Mission, with her husband Dave, had been teaching discipleship and wanted to see how the new believers took up the challenge. “It was conference time,” she says, and Dave and I wanted to give the believers the opportunity to show responsibility and to serve the other villages.”
She needn’t have worried. The believers stepped up to the challenge. They were only two families plus three women, but they set up the conference area, provided transport, planned the food, and took care of many other details. One hundred and thirty believers from six Prai villages participated. Many shared enthusiastically about what God is doing in their village and surrounding area. There were teaching sessions, collective worship, women’s and children’s events, plenty of good food, and fellowship.
“When the guest speaker was unable to attend, we saw this as an opportunity for Prai men, just learning to teach, to share the Word,” Fran said. “… all did a fine job.” “We have cried out to the Lord for more Prai men to teach and lead the church and God is answering that prayer.”
