The Bible boat, “Light in the Amazon” has distributed – in 75 days – more than 15,000 Bibles in different riverside communities along the river Amazon in Brazil. This Brazilian Bible Society project has enabled many in these communities to have the Bible for the first time, and has also allowed them to visit the “Bible Museum” – an exhibition arranged on the Light in the Amazon boat.
All the Bible Society workers on the boat have dedicated their time and love to visit these people along the Amazon and, “of course, many lives are being transformed through God’s Word,” said Reuel Klayber Ferreira, regional secretary of the Brazilian Bible Society in Belem, where the boat anchored to begin another journey. “We had two and a half months of work that gave us moments of great joy, although there were perilous times too,” said Ferreira. “A storm with huge winds pushed the boat onto a sandbank where we were stuck. While trying to free the boat, the propeller struck a rock and was damaged, but we managed to repair it and carry on,” he said.
The Light in the Amazon initiative operates two boats: one, the Bible boat, giving spiritual support; the other, a medical boat, with a fully equipped clinic, doctors and nurses.
