During the recent FIFA World Cup in June and July, the Brazilian Bible Society, with the help of Joga Limpo Brasil (Play Clean Brazil), gave out 4 million pocket Bibles and New Testaments, together with 20,000 copies of St John’s Gospel in nine different languages.
These were made available to the millions of Brazilian and foreign football fans who attended the Word’s greatest sporting event. Rev. Dr. Rudi Zimmer of the Brazilian Bible Society said, “We want the Bible to occupy a prominent place amidst all the emotion.” As many as 1,600 churches and ministries took part in the distribution.
Zimmer says they are already preparing for the next great sporting event to be held in Brazilia – the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Our aim is “to see as many people as possible having the opportunity to learn about the love of God,” he added. These two events are major opportunities.
