The Lord’s Prayer teaches us we have a Father in heaven and an enemy on earth. There is more going on in our world than we ever see. But as we think about the Evil One, Jesus doesn’t want us
thinking of a man with a goatee and pitchfork. Evil, when it shows up in flesh and blood, does not look like a Hollywood horror film. Evil in the flesh looks good. The greatest servants of Satan look like servants of God. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Who are these wolves ready to devour us? They are the holiest looking men – religious leaders even. Imagine a wolf luring another sheep to itself, mimicking its mother’s bleating. Imagine the sheep blissfully unaware of the danger. Now imagine the frenzy and blood of a vicious attack. What have we just witnessed? A Sunday sermon. A best-selling book. A popular conference speaker. A Christian TV show.
All it takes to tear a flock apart is for a false Christian to preach a false Christianity. So let us be discerning about who we listen to. Let us study our Bibles closely and also the lives of self-professed teachers. If the “fruit” of their lives is not Christ-like, we should steer well clear.
PRAY that we wouldn’t be seduced by wolves.
PRAY to know the Scriptures better and so flee to the Shepherd.
