Matthew 5:14-16
A city can’t be hidden. Why would it want to? Well cities get attacked, and no-one likes that. We’d rather camouflage. I confess that when I enter a room or a conversation I’m often thinking
“What will go down well here? How can I be warmly received? What can I say that will make people like me? What image can I project that will look good? How can I blend in or go ‘under the
radar’?” Jesus says, That’s like trying to hide Jerusalem – impossible! There’s a better way. Be who you are. Be that city on the hill, immovable, unmistakeable. Yes that might make you a target but it will also make you attractive to a world that craves security.
PRAY for the courage to be distinctive in Christian witness.
