Our devotionals are tracing a theme in evidence from the first chapter of the Bible. The pattern God employs in all His ways and works is the same: down then up; darkness then light; death then life. Joseph’s story follows exactly this shape. He is the dreamer who will certainly be raised up by God above his brothers but the way he gets there will take him through a pit and a prison. Joseph foreshadows the Lord Jesus powerfully as he goes from innocent sufferer to global ruler. In the end he is raised up, but not to judge his brothers but to save them. Actually he saves the world. But this salvation has a shape – down and then up. If we are saved, we too are swept up into this pattern. In Christ we will participate in both his sufferings and his glories. Our path to the throne will also go through a pit.
PRAISE God for a Brother like Jesus who endured the pit and ascended the throne to bless and save us.
PRAY for fellowship with Him in whatever pits we must endure.
