How does the man get his bride? By going down to a death-like sleep. His side is pierced, great violence is done. But out of this suffering his bride is formed, he is raised up, and they are brought together in consummation and singing. So it is with Adam, so it is with Christ (see Ephesians 5:21-32). From His death, the church is formed and we are heading for that great marriage supper at the end of time. But there is no singing without suffering. The path to the feast goes through the valley of the shadow.
PRAY to know Christ in the midst of sufferings (Phil 3:10), that in all our little deaths we would know our crucified Saviour.
