Genesis 1:1-5
Our devotional thoughts this month will focus on a single pattern at work in all the Bible: First there’s darkness, then light. Everything that has ever been fruitful in the kingdom of God has first passed through the valley of the shadow.
If we are to be effective witnesses to Christ in our day we need to understand this pattern: first darkness, then light; first suffering, then glory; first cross, then resurrection.
This pattern began on day one and has been written into the fabric of our world: “There was evening and there was morning…” From the outset, the way towards flourishing and life has been through struggle and death. The night time is not an unfortunate detour but the very way by which God brings His morning mercies. Therefore, with Christian faith we can appropriate that line of Churchill’s with true gospel hope: “If you’re going through hell… keep going!”
PRAY for eyes of faith to see our present struggles in their true perspective.
