Research studies show men are in crisis. As reported in Psychology Today, males commit 70% of suicides; boys are under-achieving in schools; male college and university enrolment has dropped to 40%; and in the recent recession, men lost 80% of the jobs. At the Lions Roar Global Men’s Summit, last November, religious, business and civic leaders presented solutions that address this male identity crisis. “Decades of negative media images of men and fathers… have contributed to the male identity crisis,” explains Paul Louis Cole, President of Christian Men’s Network (CMN), host of Lions Roar. “Men need fathers, mentors and heroes to help find identity, respect and courage.”
At this Global Men’s Summit leaders tackled the epidemic of fatherless-ness and marital instability, by addressing strategies such as global training, building Biblical values, leadership
coaching, prison outreach, and mentoring for young men. “Nature abhors a vacuum, so without clearly defined guidelines for manhood, society fills the void. Gangs, for example, give young men what fathers fail to provide, such as structure, identity, love and belonging,” Cole states. Hosted by CMN, this year’s Lions Roar included leaders from Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, Mongolia, Canada, Uganda, Germany, Australia and Great Britain.
Christian Men’s Network was founded in 1977 by the late Edwin Louis Cole, and is presently lead by his son Dr. Paul Louis Cole. CMN created a successful men’s mentoring and discipleship
resource that has spread to over 170 nations and has impacted over 20 million men.
