Genesis 3:7, 20
When Adam and Eve felt ashamed they sewed fig leaves together as a covering. Ever since then our instinct has been to hide ourselves away. We are not “confident in our own skin” (as the modern saying goes) and so we use any number of masks in our daily interactions.
Perhaps we want to look knowledgeable or witty or fashionable or “cool, calm and collected”. But these fig leaves prevent us from truly interacting with those around us and sharing the heart-to-hearts that are the foundation of our witness in the world. God’s solution is to offer us a true covering. Just as Adam and Eve were covered by skins, we are clothed in the Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:27).
Through His sacrifice we appear in God’s eyes to be as good as Christ. Now we don’t have to hide. We can drop the masks and begin truly relating to others. This is where genuine love and outreach begins.
PRAY for a deeper confidence in Christ, our covering, so that we might drop every other mask and truly share ourselves and the gospel with others.
